Brief About Dr. Isaac Bakzak


Dr. Isaac Bakzak leads the implementation of the Global Fund GC7 project as Kano State Regional Manager of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN). He fosters partnerships with the government and sub-recipients to provide comprehensive services in tuberculosis, HIV, community prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, as well as public-private partnerships to fight tuberculosis.

He supervises administrative duties, data management, sub-recipients, and supply-chain management for the availability of medical supplies in the region.

Before taking the lead on the GC7 project activities in the North-West Region, Dr. Bakzak led the IHVN Nasarawa State Continuous Quality Improvement, COVID 19 and Program Integration activities. He also oversaw the development and implementation of plans and activities to provide HIV prevention, care, and treatment services in Comprehensive Health Center Shabu.

He has more than 15 years of experience spanning public health service program implementation, health management and family medicine. Dr. Bakzak was the Director of Medical Services for the College of Arts, Science and Technology, Kurgwi in Plateau State where he championed the introduction of the malaria preventive initiative known as the Kurgwi Malaria initiative to reduce malaria incidences in the college. He also established the Tertiary Institution Student’s Health Insurance Program (TISHIP) still being practiced in the institution.

He served as a Medical Consultant with Anwar Specialist Hospital as well as Sendi Revelation Hospital, both in Jos. He also worked as the Medical Superintendent at Comprehensive Health Center in Jos University Teaching Hospital and Clinical Coordinator at VOM Christian Hospital in Plateau State.

Dr. Bakzak gained a Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Jos in 2006. Afterwards, he earned a fellowship from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Family Medicine in 2017. He has also obtained certifications in Global Health and Project Management along with Global Leadership and Health Management from the University of Washington.

His research interests are in continuous quality improvement, COVID-19 and family planning. He is married with children and enjoys traveling, thinking and planning.
